Steamers Bar and Grill, situated at prestigious address, 1 Marine Drive, Wollongong, has taken out the NSW Region – Contemporary Australian Restaurant category at the 2019 NSW Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence.  
Managing Director, Jim Eddy says, “This award reflects a culmination of great effort from an inspiring team of people. From the interpretation of the brief submitted to interior designers, The Lion & The Leek at the very conception of the restaurant, to our Front of House staff, led by Romain Bastianel & his partner Majdouline to the kitchen crew with Executive Chef, Paul Hamilton at the helm.  
Chef Hamilton, says “Steamers Bar and Grill brings something innovative & truly unique to Wollongong; from cultivating our own fresh produce at our farm in Jamberoo to butchering, dry-aging meats and our wood fired grill. It recognises our passion for creating a truly memorable dining experience.   
Romain Bastianel, Restaurant Manager and in-house sommelier adds,

“The thing most meaningful to us was that the category recognised “Informal” restaurants, what that says about Steamers Bar and Grill is that our restaurant is accessible to all; we uphold excellence in a casual, inviting space.”

More than 700 NSW restaurants, cafes and catering guests gathered to celebrate the achievements of their peers who were judged in over 65 categories, with the winners announced at the Awards for Excellence ceremony held at The Star, Sydney. 
The Awards for Excellence is a nationally recognised, independently judged awards program that celebrates exceptional service and culinary talent across the state. The Awards for Excellence is the only program in Australia where the judging criteria is determined by consumers who rank what is important to them in the dining experience. 
The Awards are judged by an independent team of trained judges who anonymously visit the venues to determine the restaurant/café winners. The scores are based on the entire dining experience from food to the customer service experienced when the judges anonymously dine.

Running a hospitality business isn’t easy – there’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears that goes into to making it work. But when you get the right mix of staff, produce and service, the results can be extraordinary.”   
Steamers Bar and Grill may compete with other finalists at the National Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence to be held at Howard Smith Wharves in Brisbane on Monday 28th October 2019. Finalists will be advised of their status by late September.
