Last month Steamers Bar and Grill took out top gong at the NSW Restaurant and Catering awards for Best Contemporary Australian Restaurant.
Going head to head with category finalists from other states at The National Awards Gala Dinner, held on Monday 28 October at Howard Smith Wharves, Brisbane. Steamers Bar and Grill were delighted to take home silver.
Restaurant Manager, Romain Bastianel who received the award on behalf of the restaurant spoke of the fierce competition they faced on Monday night. “The restaurants we were up against are stellar in their offering and we were honoured to be shortlisted among them.”

Chef Hamilton, says “The Wollongong community is an expression of what we offer at Steamers Bar and Grill. We are all local, but we bring so much heritage and influences from cultures far and wide. This cultural diversity is what inspires the fusion of dishes on the menu; Greek, Italian, Nepalese, Armenian, Vietnamese Turkish, great people; incredible ingredients and flavour combinations, it’s this which inspires the dishes we present seasonally, we attempt to transcend traditional tastes and recipes. We also hone the style of eating from these cultures, which has the focus on sharing; sharing a variety of dishes with family and friends, we’ve created an environment where we can come together and share.”
The Awards for Excellence is a nationally recognised, independently judged awards program that celebrates exceptional service and culinary talent across the state. The Awards for Excellence is the only program in Australia where the judging criteria is determined by consumers who rank what is important to them in the dining experience.
The Awards are judged by an independent team of trained judges who anonymously visit the venues to determine the restaurant/café winners. The scores are based on the entire dining experience from food to the customer service experienced when the judges anonymously dine.
Steamers Bar and Grill launch their summer menu this Thursday, 31st October.
